Klipsch The Sevens Review

IF YOU’RE AN APPLE MUSIC SUBSCRIBER WHO IS KEEN to greedily stuff the highest-quality audio into your ears, then Klipsch’s new addition to its Heritage Wireless speaker series, The Sevens, are geared very much towards the premium audio market. Read our Klipsch The Sevens Review.

Handcrafted with real wood finishes, premium metal controls, fabric grilles and cork ‘foot’ pads, these cabs are stunning to behold (and bloody heavy). They include a host of physical connectivity options, such as HDMI- ARC (for connecting them to your TV), TOSLINK Optical (for connecting them to older TV sets, CD players or streaming hubs), analogue RCA, 3.5mm jack and USB-B. You can also hook them up directly to a record player thanks to an integrated phono preamp.

“Handcrafted with real wood finishes, premium metal controls and fabric grilles, these cabs are stunning to behold”

For wireless connections, The Sevens support Bluetooth 5.0, allowing you to stream hi-res 192kHz/24-bit audio from your mobile devices. Although AirPlay may be lacking, just about every other connection type you could want is present and correct.

So what lurks inside these hulking cabs? Employing high-performance DSP and filter technology, the 6.5-inch high-excursion fibre-composite cone woofer and one-inch titanium LTS vented tweeter, along with a large, edge-toedge with Tractrix horn, deliver a flood of high-quality sound that fills and totally engulfs large spaces. The Sevens also employ a dynamic bass EQ that automatically adjusts the level of the bass as the volume changes. And, if you want more bass, then a single RCA line output is on hand to connect an optional powered subwoofer.

Included in the box are four metres of four-conductor speaker cable, a two-metre extension cable (illustrating just how far apart these beasts can be to still be highly effective), a USB-B to USB-A cable and an HDMI cable. The quality of all is as top-notch as the speakers themselves. Less can be said of the remote, which feels slightly cheap.

Floor fillers

Easy to set up and connect to, The Sevens even have a switch on the back that let you change the primary speaker, providing plenty of flexibility in where you place them. They’re larger than what we would deem ‘bookshelf’ speakers and would definitely be audio overkill for a bedroom office. Give them the space to express themselves though and The Sevens will gladly swallow it up.

Of course, the size of these speakers means that loudness is assured, but what’s clever is the way they dynamically match the ear’s ability to hear low frequencies. Dynamic volume is a first for Klipsch powered monitors and the result is deep, resonating bass whether the volume is cranked up high, turned down low, or somewhere in between.

Verdict

Klipsch’s magnificent Sevens are obscenely good speakers that work best at filling cavernous spaces with dynamically enhanced audio. An expensive, but awesome upgrade.
