SONY ULT FIELD 7 Review
The Sony ULT Field 7 aims to bring a party atmosphere to the living room or the beach. How the speaker performs is revealed in the test.
Sony has revamped its Bluetooth speakers and headphones with the new ULT series. Positioned between the handy ULT Field 1 and the powerful ULT Tower 10, the ULT Field 7 aims to combine rich sound with stylish lighting and offer long battery life. Whether the wireless speaker lives up to these promises is revealed in the 7Review test.
Stylish Barrel
The tapered shape of the ULT Field 7 stands out among the usual boxes and cylinders. The sides end in plastic rings, which also serve as handles. Weighing 6.3 kilograms, the Bluetooth speaker is quite hefty, with dimensions of 22 x 51 x 22 cm (W x H x D). The Sony looks visually impressive: the wireless speaker has a high-quality finish, and the tight fabric covering is appealing. Circular LED strips surround the bass membrane, providing atmospheric lighting on demand.
A Control Bar and Two Apps
The color of the light rings can be adjusted via the “Fiestable” app for iOS and Android, which also offers some sound effects. The “Music Center” app is responsible for other operations. Here, music fans can adjust the sound using an equalizer or select the music source. The clear app is convenient but not necessarily required to control the speaker. For example, volume and playback can be controlled directly on the ULT Field. The buttons are conveniently located on the top. The “ULT” button on the right side allows users to switch between two bass boost levels, which lights up when activated.
Is the Sound Worth It?
BLUETOOTH SPEAKER WITH LIGHT AND USB PORT
The ULT settings boost the lower and middle frequencies (depending on the option) for more power. Especially in closed rooms, the sound can be overpowering, and voices may get lost. In the default setting, the ULT Field 7 delivers a balanced and warm sound overall. The highs remain clean, and voices sound mostly unaltered. There is nothing to complain about with the mids, and the punchy bass gives the sound a fresh character. However, the Bluetooth speaker doesn’t dive deep, and the bass stays in a medium frequency range.
Thus, the sound barrel shares similar strengths and weaknesses with its bigger brother, the ULT Tower 10. While the ULT Field 7 can’t match its volume, it doesn’t need to hide: the wireless speaker reached a solid 100 decibels in the lab.

A Sturdy Party Lion
Except for an optical digital input, the ULT Field 7 offers the same features as its heavier sibling: on the back, there is a USB-A charging and playback port, a stereo input (3.5 mm jack), and an instrument input (6.3 mm jack). A microphone can also be connected here, turning the party into a karaoke session without any issues.
Unlike the ULT Tower 10, the test candidate is equipped with a battery. In the test, it lasted an impressive 41 hours and 39 minutes with the bass boost and lighting turned off.
The speaker is also water and dustproof (IP67 protection level), making it ideal for beach or pool parties.
