Gionee Elife E5 Review

A premium android phone at a low price

Despite not being a much-touted
or premium brand of smart
phones, Gionee has already
launched a few high quality
smartphones with a premium in
the market.

Elife E5 is a mid budget Android
Jellybean smartphone with a quad
core processor and 720p screen.
The power packed phone has a
well built unibody design
measuring a ridiculously thin
6.8mm, slimmer than many top
notch smartphones. It also boasts
of a rugged back panel which can
easily withstand a few drops.
On the front, there is a 320PPI
4.8in AMOLED screenwith a
1280×720 resolution. Rather than
occupy screen space by placing
buttons, there are three touch
sensitive physical buttons below the
screen. The micro SIM slot and mini
USB port sit on the top right while
the left is occupied by the power/
standby and volume rocker buttons.
Unlike other new smartphones,
E5 features a single SIM. It also does
not have an external memory slot,
you’ll get 16GB internal memory
instead, of which 13GB is usable.
The Gionee Elife E5 uses a
Mediatek MT6589, which is a
1.5GHz quad core processor and it’s
partnered with a PowerVR
SGX544MP GPU and 1GB of RAM.
The configuration is good enough
for most activities including
intense gaming or watching HD
video. The benchmark results are
impressive too. It achieved a score
of 16438 in ANTUTU, close
enough to 17956 achieved by
Samsung Galaxy S3 or 16793 of
Google Nexus 4. It also achieved
1660 in Vellamo HTML5 test. We
played few heavy games including
Shadowgun, Dead Trigger and
Asphalt 6 without any frame rate
issues.
The 4.8in screen is decent for
viewing 720p
videos. The call
quality is good
too. The 8.0MP
Camera
performed well
enough in
ambient lighting
conditions. The
battery stood more than a day in
our test… Good enough.
The Elife E5 is a decent
smartphone with great looks and
performance. Available for Rs
15,999 across web stores (at the
time of review), it has everything to
be a ‘Good Buy’!
