Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition Review
Streaming devices with large touchscreens have so far been the domain of Rose HiFi. Now there’s competition from Eversolo, and at a significantly lower price. Our test reveals whether the quality still holds up.
by Reinhard Paprotka
When Rose introduced the RS201 in 2020, it was a real surprise: The front panel of this streamer-amplifier is largely filled by a touchscreen that allows command input with direct feedback. Since then, the Korean manufacturer has added more streaming components to its lineup, all with large touchscreens.
Now, the Chinese company Eversolo is challenging this unique feature and presents the DMP-A6 Master Edition streamer-preamp. It competes with the Rose RS250A, which costs $2,740 and shows similarities in most areas.
The large display responds very well to touch and is perfectly complemented by the combo button.
The RS250A offers an advantage with its integrated NAS functionality, a front headphone jack, and video playback. Additionally, its touchscreen measures 8.8 inches diagonally, whereas the similarly sized Eversolo is only 6 inches. In testing, however, the reduced width proved to be entirely sufficient, as 6 inches is still about 15 centimeters.

Very good build quality
The DMP-A6’s display is perfectly embedded in the front panel, which—like the entire housing—is made of precisely machined aluminum. The ribbed side panels enhance the high-quality impression. The volume knob also serves as a power switch. A nice detail: The volume steps can be adjusted from 0.5 to 3 dB. When adjusting the volume, a symbol briefly appears on the display.
The display contents are very well thought out, presenting six basic functional areas. This makes operating the streamer easy, even without reading the manual, despite its extensive features. Android 11 serves as the foundation, although app installation does not run via the Play Store but through APK files. It’s commendable that the operating system, with all its audio-specific applications, is accessible via both the touchscreen and the Eversolo Control App.
The app was integrated into the concept from the beginning. Consistent operation via touchscreen and app is an important feature of modern streamers, contrasting with devices that have apps added later. Therefore, additional apps like BubbleUPnP are not needed for the DMP-A6. The cherry on top is that, with an optional remote control, acceptable operation is possible via the display even without a smartphone.
Streaming par excellence
Eversolo deserves praise for its comprehensive streaming features. It provides access to all major music services, including Apple Music, which supports Hi-Res playback, while AirPlay is limited to CD quality. The streamer operates with an adapted user interface for these services. Additionally, the support of streaming protocols like Tidal Connect is crucial for their use. In this case, operation takes place in the service’s app, which often offers more controls and information. However, not all services provide this option yet.
Other network protocols include RAAT (Roon), UPnP/DLNA, NFS, and SMB (1, 2, 3). This covers the entire spectrum for distributing your own music over the home network. Via SMB, you can not only access music folders on a PC or Mac, but you can also fill the Eversolo’s storage with music data from both computer platforms.
For music storage, the DMP-A6 contains a small compartment in the bottom for installing an M.2 NVME SSD, space-saving, lightning-fast, and with up to 4 terabytes of storage capacity. This is enough for 10,500 hours of FLAC in CD quality or 3,200 hours in 24/96. External storage can be added via the USB host adapter. For data transfer, there is a file manager for drag-and-drop, similar to a PC.
Connecting a USB CD drive allows both CD playback and ripping with bit-perfect copying and automatic metadata retrieval from the web.
As a preamp, the Eversolo accepts digital sources via S/P-DIF, USB, and Bluetooth, the latter supporting all high-quality codecs. Outputs are available analog via XLR and digital via S/P-DIF, USB, and HDMI. Even 7.1 multi-channel is possible, allowing the DMP-A6 to be used as a source for A/V receivers. However, a TV return channel is not provided, so TV audio must run via S/P-DIF.
Key technical highlights for sound quality include the EOS Audio Engine for direct Hi-Res transfer, bypassing Android audio limitations, as well as a high-quality XMOS-316 USB interface for maximum resolution of 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD512. Power is supplied by a low-noise switching power supply, and two Femto-clock oscillators from Accusilicon ensure top-tier clock timing. Eversolo uses two ESS ES9038-Q2M chips for D/A conversion.
Excellent sound
In terms of sound, the streamer matches its other highlights: It effortlessly handles all types of audio, delivering clarity, depth, and transparency. The soundstage is beautifully spacious and finely detailed, with a neutral tone—almost like the proverbial piece of wire. It performs in a league where its price would not suggest.
EXCELLENT TOUCHSCREEN: The DMP-A6 display measures 13.6 x 6.8 centimeters and provides comprehensive information. This includes the player interface with covers, metadata, and precise music format displays. Additionally, it allows access to inputs, music services, and storage content, as well as the numerous setting parameters, which are transparently displayed on the touchscreen.
Various simulated level meters and real-time analyzer displays make the Eversolo an optical highlight in any Hi-Fi system.
THE APP CHECK
The Eversolo Control App works seamlessly with the DMP-A6’s touchscreen and operating system. This allows for complete, very fast, and clear operation. Upon startup, users are greeted with a basic interface for accessing different areas, with information about music formats—including multi-channel—and top-notch volume control. Streaming enthusiasts will rejoice!
Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition Performance Report
Harmonic distortion: Low distortion, delivering 2.5V via RCA and 4.9V via XLR at full volume (adjustable in 100 steps). K3 (green) is the strongest distortion component, nearly 100 dB quieter than the fundamental tone. The distortion spectrum with 1 kHz/0 dBFS (without illustration) shows an extremely low noise floor of under -150 dB, with some faint non-harmonic tones appearing.
With 0.005% THD+N, the signal remains very clean and low-noise (116/122 dB RCA/XLR). Tip: Using Wi-Fi instead of a LAN cable reduces the 50 Hz hum from -110 to -130 dB. Below are the frequency responses with different filter settings starting from 10 kHz with 44.1 kHz PCM sound. Power consumption standby/operation 0.3/11 W.
