BlackBerry Z30 Review

Has Blackberry got it right the second time

Z30 is the second
touchscreen handset
with Blackberry 10 OS
launched by
BlackBerry.
Featuring a 5in”
touchscreen, the Z30
is bigger than its
predecessor, the
BlackBerry Z10. It
also has improved
features compared to
the previous model,
including version 10.2
of the OS.
The Z30 looks
stylish with the BBM
logo engraved on the backplate
and a silver lining over the bezel. It
not only looks better than the boxy
looking Z10 but is comfortable to
hold too. Measuring
141x72x9.4mm and weighing
170g, the Z30 is way bigger and a
slightly heavier than Z10’s
130x66x9mm and 137g. The 30
extra grammes may be noticed by
some, but the prime reason for
that is the bigger 2880 mAh
battery.

BlackBerry Z30

Despite being bigger in size, the
Z30’s 5in, 1280×720 and 294ppi
Super Amoled capacitive
touchscreen does not score over
the Z10’s 4.2in, 1280×768 356ppi
capacitive touchscreen. The screen
is crisp and bright with vibrant
colours, but is unable to match the
performance and looks of similarly
priced phones.
The new OS version, BB 10.2
brings hundreds of improvements
and practical new features
including the BlackBerry Priority
Hub and BBM Now. BlackBerry
Priority Hub “learns” over time and
prioritizes important conversations
and frequently
mailed contacts.
BBM Now shows
new incoming
messages as a
notification on top of
the UI, so you can
respond
immediately.
Inside is a dual
core 1.7GHz Krait
Qualcomm
Snapdragon S4 Pro
processor with 2GB
of RAM. On paper the
configuration is not
as impressive as
flagship Android device’s quad and
octa core processors. However, we
did not notice any performance
issues throughout the review. The
web pages loaded seamlessly and
apps ran smoothly.
The 8MP rear camera is paired
with an LED flash. The camera’s
performance is decent in ambient
light but is a bit sluggish in
challenging situations. The
2880mAh battery is a plus point, at
full charge, it lasted around a day
and half. With medium usage, it’s
possible to achieve two days on a
single charge.
The phone comes with 16GB of
inbuilt memory which can be
expanded using a micro SD card,
the Z30 is available online at an
approximate cost of Rs 42,000 (at
the time of review).
